Equipment Test and Tag Register
v4.0
Purpose. This register lists every item of electrical and rigging equipment owned or hired by Studio Aurora, its test status and next test date, so that only safe equipment is used in productions.
1.Scope
The register covers all portable electrical equipment, extension leads, power distribution, lighting fixtures, dimmers, audio and vision equipment, cameras and chargers, workshop tools and all rigging hardware including chain hoists, slings, shackles and truss. Hired equipment must be checked for a current tag on arrival and recorded for the hire period.
2.Test intervals
Equipment used in the theatre, on location or for hire must be tested and tagged every six months in line with the Australian standard for in-service testing. Workshop equipment must be tested every 12 months. Rigging hardware must be inspected before each use and formally inspected annually by a competent person.
- Theatre, location and hire equipment: 6 months
- Studio and office equipment: 12 months
- Workshop machinery: 12 months
- Rigging hardware: before each use and annually
3.Recording
Each item is recorded with its asset number, description, location, test date, result, tester and next due date. Items that fail must be tagged out of service, recorded as failed and removed from the venue until repaired and retested. The register is reviewed monthly by the Production Manager.
4.Current status summary
At the last monthly review, 412 items were in service with a current tag, 9 items were overdue and 4 items were tagged out awaiting repair, including two lighting fixtures and a chain hoist with a worn hook latch. Overdue items must not be used until tested.
5.Responsibilities
The Production Manager owns the register. The Stage and Lighting Technician conducts testing and updates entries. Any crew member who finds untagged or damaged equipment must tag it out and report it on the Incident and Hazard Report Form.
